Abstract
Manual dosing procedure for solutes and solvents in the Crystallisation Screening DataFactory
Solute Weighing
Solute Weighing
If balance is unused that week so far, carry out weight check, results to be added to spreadsheet
Check spirit level to ensure the balance is levelled
Zero the balance
Weigh empty vial
If material is known to be static, weigh vial with cap screwed on, otherwise weigh the vial uncapped
Tare balance
Remove vial from balance and add material via spatula
reweigh vial
(with or without cap dependent on actions from step 4.1
Review mass, and determine if the mass satisfies requirements (<1% from target mass)
If yes, can proceed.
If mass is under target weight by >1%, repeat step 6 onwards until satisfactory
If mass is over target weight by >1%, remove and dispose of sample in waste, repeat step 8 onwards until satisfactory
Solvent Weighing
Solvent Weighing
If following from previous steps, tare balance with vial and solute.
Remove vial from balance and add solvent via pipette
Review mass, and determine if the mass satisfies requirements (<1% from target mass)
If yes, can proceed.
If mass is under target weight by >1%, repeat step 6 onwards until satisfactory
If mass is over target weight by >1%, consider recalculation of concentration and whether it is acceptable
If required, tare balance and add solute to reach the required concentration (i.e. follow steps 6 through 8 and optionally 9 through 11, until concentration is satisfactory
If target mass and concentration has been met, record masses and concentrations
